It sure is nice to have the option of going outside again! Like most of the country, Durham had been under an extreme heat wave for almost two weeks. We were over 100 degrees six days in a row. Luckily that streak ended earlier this week, but since then it has been rainy. Today was the first day in a while where we finally were able to spend a lot of the day outdoors.
It makes for a long day when you are couped up inside. Durham has a mall with a play area, but you can only do that so many times. Besides, a trip to the mall usually means non-stop asking for me to buy things. I swear Sophie is a teenager already!
Sophie and Sawyer are both use to getting out of the house to run around and burn off some energy. When we are stuck inside all day, they just pick on each other and get into trouble. It had been driving me crazy and I’m sure was no picnic for them either!
Today we resumed our exploring of the Durham/Raleigh area and found a neat little park called Blue Jay Point County Park. It is part of the Falls Lake Recreation Area and it has lots of hiking trails that have views of the lake. It has a really modern playground too with a sand pit. The kids have really gotten into playing in sand.
It looks like the temperatures will get back into the mid 90s by the weekend. Mid 90s is hot, but I’ll take it over mid 100s any day. Hopefully our days of triple digits are over for a while.
