The next karate kid

karate_sophieBeth and I strongly believe that Sophie needs to step out of her comfort zone and try new things.  In North Carolina she did swim lessons.  In Florida she did ballet.  Here in Arizona she is going to try karate.

Unfortunately it didn’t start off too well.  Beth took Sophie to her first lesson and she pretty much clung to Beth’s leg the whole time.  Yesterday we went back for a follow-up and things went much better.  Sophie started learning the beginner punches and blocks.

Today was Sophie’s first actual class with other kids and I’m glad to say she did really well.  For the first time it seemed like this was something that she might actually enjoy!  The person who taught the class worked well with Sophie and the other kids.  There was a lot of kicking, punching, and yelling – right up her alley.  It’s too early to tell if karate will be something that sticks, but so far it’s starting off well.
